CAMPERS:
June 8th - '17 days before test', Quarantine expectations
Covered in this email:
- The “17-days before camp” test
- 14-day quarantine
The countdown to camp is on! With 26 days to go, in this edition of our Road to Camp, we want to flag to you the importance of taking a COVID test 17-days before camp.
This is a covid test that while not required, is highly recommended, as it could truly determine whether a camper or staff can come to camp or not.
The reason you’d want to do this test is that in case you have or have recently had COVID but have been asymptomatic (within the last 3 months), you would have the appropriate time to isolate and quarantine prior to camp. This will allow for entry into camp at the scheduled start date with the appropriate paperwork.
The dates for your “17-days before camp” test are as follows:
ALL CAMPERS AND CITS: Thursday, June 17th
HEAD STAFF: Monday, June 7
ALL OTHER STAFF: Thursday, June 10
You can get this test done at any pharmacy that does testing (the list of these pharmacies is attached for you as an excel file and a pdf). It is free for anyone who identifies as a student or a teacher.
Please note for those that had a positive covid in the last 3 months, please check out our flow chart with next steps on our FAQ page.
14-day quarantine before camp
All campers and staff will be required to sign an Attestation approximately 48 hours before coming to camp, confirming that all the pre-summer expectations and requirements were met. To be clear, there is an expectation that in the 14 days prior to coming to camp, campers and staff AND their families will meet outside where possible, always maintain a safe distance of at least 6 feet, and wear masks when doing so. Click here and go to ‘What does pre-summer quarantine’ mean for more details. We recognize that not every family can have everyone in full isolation at all times but you are nonetheless expected to restrict conduct to low risk behaviours and therefore follow the protocols to the full extent possible.
The start dates for your “14-day quarantine before camp” are as follows:
ALL CAMPERS AND CITS: Sunday, June 20th
HEAD STAFF: Thursday, June 10
ALL OTHER STAFF: Sunday, June 13
There is a great proverb in the Talmud that speaks to the communal responsibility we all have to each other this summer. ”Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh la’zeh” or "All of Israel are responsible for each other".
We must work together and rely on each other, to help Camp Northland operate safely this summer.
Next steps in the testing plan (in particular the final few days before camp) will be communicated soon. We want to make sure we consider the absolute best available options and timing of these tests to keep Covid-19 out of camp.

June 11th - Packing list, Testing/vaccine letter, Mental Health support, Shabbat
Covered in this email:
Shabbat Shalom,
With just 23 days to go, in this edition of ‘Road to Camp’, we want to touch in some key packing list items, give you an important testing and vaccine resource, show support for our staff and campers in these challenging times, and give you a sneak peek into Shabbat at camp.
PACKING LIST
If you have not yet seen the packing list, please make sure to check it out here. Note that there are new items for 2021 including masks, sanitizer, and each camper bringing their own life jacket. The life jacket has been added because public health wants us to minimize the sharing of items when possible, and life jackets historically were shared more than any other item in camp. This is a good investment as we will continue requiring this in future years too (and your child will always have a correctly sized and comfortable life jacket that they are familiar with every day). Some other packing list ‘did you knows’ are:
Nice outfits for Shabbat - Every Friday evening, campers and staff tend to “clean themselves up” a little more than usual, as we bring in Shabbat together as a camp community. Typically in blue and white, this can be nice jeans or shorts and a clean t-shirt, a dress, or any outfit where your child(ren) feel comfortable, happy and ready to welcome in Shabbat.
Sleeping bag- Did you know we have multiple camping sites throughout our beautiful 750 acres, and we are able to provide amazing overnight experiences right at home on Moose Lake?! Campers bring sleeping bags to these adventures and leave their day to day bedding in their cabins.
Fanny pack- Because of some of our COVID protocols, every camper and staff should have a fanny pack on them to carry the essentials, including hand sanitzer and masks.
Masks- We want to clarify that none of us know the exact amount of masks each camper and staff will need. We indicated 25/week on the Packing List, and we want you to know that this is considered to be backup stock (just in case). We were very fortunate to have a very generous PPE donation and first and foremost, masks will come from that donation and be given to our campers. The hope is that this unbelievably generous donation will supply each child and staff with all of our mask needs all summer. The donation actually extends way beyond masks, and also includes face shields, goggles, gloves and other important NPIs (non-pharmaceutical interventions) that will help keep our camp community safe this summer. So bring the masks as a back-up and let’s also remain grateful for the incredible PPE support we have received. The strategy around sanitizer, and community generosity supporting us, is the same. We have LOTS but bring the back-up supply as requested.
Toolbox- This is a great item to store things like stationary and envelopes, screen-less MP3 player, books or magazines, and other personal items that a camper wants to keep safe.
TESTING and VACCINES- Important Supporting Letter
While all pharmacies have received updated eligibility criteria, sometimes when booking or going in for a test or vaccine, it really does depend on how knowledgeable the particular staff you are booking with is. To help support you, please see the attached letters that you should bring with you to your test and/or vaccine appointments (along with any referenced supporting documents). The vaccination letter is specifically for staff and our CITs.
Make sure to check out our last Road to Camp communication where we covered the ‘17 days before’ test and what pre-summer quarantine looks like.
It is highly recommended that anyone who is eligible get both vaccine doses prior to coming camp.
MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH SUPPORT
Special session on Wednesday, June 23rd at 7:00 PM
Even though we are all so excited to be returning to camp, after so many months of isolation, lack of routine and communicating through screens, many people (of all ages) are struggling. Join our Director of Wellness, Daniela Aptowitzer, who will be offering a one time program to teach self awareness and emotion management techniques for anyone in our camp community who is interested. This event will help you to identify worries, anxious thinking and learn about how campers and staff can be supported. It will even address how to handle getting the kids out of the car at drop off, and the emotions both campers and parents may be feeling at that time. At the end of this evening you will learn skills of self awareness and practical techniques to manage challenging emotions. This would be a beneficial program/event/evening for campers, parents and staff to attend.

SHABBAT AT CAMP
Shabbat is a special time at camp when everything seems to slow down, allowing our campers and staff to reflect on an amazing week coming to an end, and a new one beginning. Programming is different than the rest of the week, highlighted by Free Friday (an afternoon of activity choices by cohort, challah baking, Shabbat-O-Grams, and more), and special Saturday theme day programs. Shabbat culminates in a camp-wide Havdalah ceremony, where we bless the wine, candle and spices through meaningful songs, stories and [safely distanced and cohorted!] community circles. It is a highlight of the week for so many of us!
Thanks and stay tuned for the next ‘Road to Camp’ email(s) in just a few short days, where we explain the REVISED Camp Northland covid-testing protocols in the 72 hours before camp, baggage drop off, and driving your campers to camp.

June 14th - Baggage Drop, Testing, First Day of Camp arrival procedures
Covered in this email:
Please join us if you have any lingering questions about the final 72 hours leading up to camp (no advance registration required): https://ujafederation.zoom.us/j/92940197552?pwd=Ly9IOFZZWXBxVkUyejF0LzQ4WFRwUT09
Dear families,
Our ‘road to camp’ is getting shorter and we are getting more and more excited. We know you are too!
Below you will find information on baggage drop-off, testing and arrival information for your July 4th drive up to Moose Lake to drop off your campers! PLEASE NOTE THERE IS UPDATED TESTING INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS BELOW THAT ALL FAMILIES MUST CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW! This email will serve as a resource available to you for several key dates between now and your drive up to camp on July 4th for the first day of camp.
The first strongly urged and recommended covid test is an asymptomatic lab PCR (lower nasal swab) at one of the testing pharmacies/clinics. This test is strongly recommended for all of the reasons we have already explained in multiple communications and our FAQs. You should book this immediately if you have not already done so. The two tests in the 72 hours before departing to camp are mandatory. If these tests are not completed in the required timelines, the camper will not be allowed into camp.
Key Date Summary for Campers:
Thursday June 17 - Strongly recommended asymptomatic lab PCR test (lower nasal swab). Book this asap! Note: this is not a rapid test - make sure to book the asymptomatic lab PCR covid test. If you test positive - you must self-isolate. Click here to understand how to self-isolate properly.
Sunday, June 20 - The start of 14 day quarantine period
Thursday July 1st - Baggage drop off AND mandatory Covid-19 Saliva test - all campers must be in the car as the actual test kit will be brought to the car and the saliva sample is provided from the comfort of your own car!
Saturday July 3rd - Mandatory Lab PCR Covid test (lower nasal swab) - Drive-through testing
Sunday July 4th - Drop your camper(s) off directly at camp for the FIRST DAY OF CAMP 2021
THURSDAY JULY 1ST -
BAGGAGE DROP OFF AND FIRST OF THE TWO MANDATORY TESTS BEFORE CAMP
Q: Where do I drop off baggage and when does that happen?
A: Baggage drop off for campers this year is on July 1st from 8:00am-12:00pm (see assigned times below). at Herbert Carnegie Centennial Arena (580 Finch Avenue West). A Covid-19 Saliva test will be administered in your car on all campers and therefore they must all be present.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
8:00 - 9:00 AM. Last names starting with A-G
9:00 - 10:00 AM Last names starting with H-M
10:00 - 11:00 AM Last names starting with N-R
11:00 AM-12:00 PM Last names starting with S-Z
Pro tips: Go to the washroom before you leave your house! When you arrive, expect a line-up, do not leave your car for any reason (someone will take the luggage out from your trunk), and please bring your patience (we have never done this before and hope to never do it again). We will share an illustration of the flow from entry to baggage to testing to exit as we get closer.
COVID-19 SALIVA TEST
When the test kit is brought to your car, the fun for your child begins! When do we ever get the chance to tell our kids to spit, spit and spit some more! This could be a lot of fun if everyone comes with a great attitude. It can sometimes take a child 5-15 minutes to generate the amount of saliva (i.e. spit) that is required – and that is A-O.K. Once the receptacle has enough spit, you will need to remember to write your child’s name, date of birth and health card number on the label so BRING A PEN! Click here for the illustrated Saliva Collection Instructions.
Q: What do we do when the saliva test is done?
A: When the test is complete, please turn on your flashing hazards, and one of our volunteers will come to collect the kit from your car. Again, please do not leave your car for any reason.
Q: How do we access the test results?
A: See attached PDF, entitled “How to access results”
Q: How do we prepare for the test in advance?
A:
A: YES - The "Laboratory Requisition Form" (PDF '3 day before test_Requisition_Camp Northland')
SATURDAY JULY 3 –
SECOND OF THE TWO MANDATORY TESTS BEFORE CAMP
We will be conducting this mandatory Lab PCR Covid-19 test ( lower nasal swab) for all campers the day before you drive them up to camp.
Please note- We normally do not schedule camp events on Shabbat. On the advice of the medical professionals, we have determined that this is a matter of child safety and having the test done in this way is the best option to support our efforts to keep our camp Covid free and in turn our population healthy. If this conflicts with your observance of shabbat please contact us at [email protected] and we will provide you with an alternate plan for your second mandatory test.
This second mandatory Covid test will also be a drive-through test where everyone stays in the car. It will not take long but we need you there early because until you get your negative result, you CANNOT COME INTO CAMP, and this could take 24 hours to get results.
This testing will take place from 7:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 3rd at In Common Labs located at 57 Gervais Dr, North York, ON M3C 1Z2 on the following schedule:
7:00 a.m.-8:00 a.m. Last names beginning with A-G
8:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m. Last names beginning with H-M
9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Last names beginning with N-R
10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. - Last names beginning with S-Z
DON’T BE LATE! If you are late, we cannot guarantee your negative result will arrive in time for you to come to camp.
Q: How do we prepare for the test in advance?
A: There is nothing to prepare - just be on time!
Q: Is there any paperwork that needs to be completed and brought to the test?
A: YES - Please print and complete Section 2 (and other pertinent information) on the attached camper requisition, 'Day before test_IC Labs_Camp Northland (Camper Requisition)', and bring with you to the drive-thru testing. The lab will take the requisition and gently swab your child’s nose. A completed requisition form ahead of time expedites the process.
Additional Note: Anyone not living in Toronto who cannot be part of our testing, must contact Simon immediately at [email protected] to discuss how alternate testing can be obtained. The key element you will need is the item on the right hand side in the requisition called ‘investigation number’ at the bottom of Section 2. If alternate arrangements must be made to the testing, we are arranging at 57 Gervais, you can present this number to a participating pharmacy in Ontario (book a Lab PCR in advance and align with the same timing to our testing schedule) and have the camper(s) swab taken and we will still be able to receive the report, as long as you use the correct investigation number on requisition form.
SUNDAY JULY 4TH –
FIRST DAY OF CAMP!
All campers are to be driven to camp on Sunday July 4th. If you have more than one camper in your household, you will follow the timing for the youngest camper in the household. If you, for example, have a child in Section I (completing grades 1-4) and another child in Unit 3 (completing grades 7-8), both children are to arrive together in the same vehicle at the designated Section I drop-off time at camp. Otherwise, please make sure to follow the schedule – i.e. please don’t arrive early and don’t arrive late! Please pack a lunch and bring kosher and nut free snacks as the first full meal to be served at camp will be dinner. A reminder that the camp address is 4250 Haliburton Lake Rd. Haliburton, ON K0M 1S0.
Drop off Times:
A: First of all, don’t forget to bring us your campers! Also, make sure that you have a printout of both mandatory negative test results to hand in as your ‘passport/ to enter our site. If a printout is impossible, we will accept a digital copy by email in advance to [email protected] (subject of your email should be: [[insert Child’s name] - Proof of negative Covid test - [insert date of test].
Q: When do we give any medication and related medication instructions to the camp?
A: Medication drop-off will take place up at camp as campers are dropped off and cleared for entry. When you hand over your medication, please make sure that the medications are in a sealed Ziploc bag clearly labeled with the camper’s name, and with an ice pack inside if refrigeration is required. You should also provide instructions related to the medication in a SEPARATE smaller Ziploc, that goes inside the other ziploc, also clearly labeled with the camper’s name.
Other Questions, Answers and Updates:
Q: Is there a 2021 Parent Handbook?
A: Yup! Click here to check it out!
Q: What do we do if we get a positive test result for Covid-19?
A: You will need to advise the camp immediately. You will also need to follow all expectations of public health.
Q: So what happens again in the two weeks leading up to camp (i.e. the 14 day quarantine)?
A: This is yet another reminder that your household has agreed to limit non-essential activities outside of your home. If someone must leave, then all recommended protocols as shared in prior communications are to be followed including masking, maintaining distance, remaining outside whenever possible, hand hygiene, sanitizing as required, and cough and sneeze etiquette are some of the most basic expectations. Once you have done your first mandatory test, you should be in a total lockdown to prevent exposure. What’s at stake here is your child’s ability to come to camp. To be clear, if your child tests positive, they and THEIR ENTIRE CABIN COHORT WILL NEED TO LEAVE CAMP. Please keep this in mind if you are at all tempted to jeopardize the full quarantine requirements.
Additional Note: Don’t forget that you are expected to download and use the Provincial Covid Alert App starting immediately but in any event NO LATER THAN the 14 days leading up to camp. You can download it by clicking here.
Q: Why is there so much information?
We know that this is all a lot for everyone to take in. We are doing our best to navigate a very challenging and sensitive situation, with your child’s safety at the forefront. . Some things change on a daily basis and we remain committed to sharing the latest information with you as clearly as we can. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Now let’s execute this plan and get these kids up to camp to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, to roast marshmallows on a fire, and to spend time with friends again. They need this. The time has nearly come.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- All camper bags must be dropped off at the baggage drop on July 1st even though you are driving up to camp. The necessity of this process is to ensure the drop-off at camp goes smoothly, with each camper taking only a few minutes to just hop out of their car with a day bag as they head into camp (no luggage at that time).
- As mentioned above, baggage drop this year is also when a Covid-19 Saliva test for all campers will be administered. Therefore, each camper must come to the baggage drop-off. Please plan accordingly as for some families with more than one camper, you may need two trips (or two cars) to accommodate the baggage and people.

- Section I (grades 1-4 born male): 1:00 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
- Unit 1 (grades 1-4 born female): 1:45 p.m.-2:30 p.m.
- Section II (grades 5-6 born male) 2:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
- Unit 2 (grades 5-6 born female): 3:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
- Section III and Unit 3 (Grades 7-8 - all) 3:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
- LTP (grade 9 - all): 4:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m.
- CIT (grade 10 - born male): 4:30-5:00
- CIT (grade 10 - born female) 5:00-5:30
- The drive to camp takes approximately 3 hours. ·
- You are expected to drive straight from Toronto to camp without stopping so plan ahead! Use washrooms at home and pack your food for the trip. This is to prevent exposure between home and camp, which puts all of us at risk. If you MUST stop due to a washroom emergency, nothing should be purchased, time spent indoors must be minimized, masks must be worn, hands sanitized, and a minimum distance of 6 feet maintained from all other people at all times.
- You will need to pass a COVID screening when your vehicle arrives at camp. Do not enter if you cannot pass the screening test. The typical screening questions you can expect can be found by clicking here.
- The only people in your car must be from your own household.
- No-one except the camper(s) can leave the car at the drop-off point so big bear hugs and goodbyes need to take place before you get into the car to leave towards camp! Help prepare the kids for this reality so they know to expect it when they arrive at camp.
- You will not be allowed in early, nor will you be allowed to wait in or around the camp.
- There will be a porta-potty made available towards the exit, for use after you have dropped off your camper(s) for use in urgent cases. If there is a line-up, you cannot stop. If you see a line-up at the porta-potty, please leave the camp and use a washroom on your way home or to your next destination.
- Do not block the road into camp for any reason or pull over on the road outside of camp as this creates a safety hazard for motorists. The OPP will be out patrolling on this day. ·
Onward Northland,

June 21st - Quarantine, Carpooling, Health Form info and Testing/Arrival Recap
Covered in this email:
Please ensure you read the entire email as there is NEW information throughout that requires action on your part.
We have been waiting two years for this day! We are now just under two weeks from July 4th -the start of camp! Two weeks = Fourteen days...and you know what that means - our social contract of meeting all quarantine requirements in advance of camp begins now.
QUARANTINE REMINDER
As we enter the final 14 days before camp, it is so important to understand the importance of self-isolating from now until camp. Please remember that our number one goal before the summer, and the reason for a quarantine at home, is to truly minimize possible exposures before entering camp. That can help maximize our chances of a Covid-19 free summer, cohort expansion, and progressively increasing amazing social opportunities for all of our children. Therefore, every family must respect these policies - that is what you have already agreed to do.
What does this mean?
This means NO interaction whatsoever with anyone outside your immediate household. This includes, and is not limited to, birthday parties, graduation parties, family gatherings, play dates, etc... If someone in your household needs to leave the house for an essential reason (such as a medical appointment, mandatory work, etc.), that individual is expected to follow strict public health guidance, including proper wearing of PPE, physical distancing at all times and remaining outside whenever possible. Proper hand hygiene is also critical. Click here for additional info on how to self-isolate.
As a reminder, all staff and families will be required to sign an Attestation - a Compliance Certification form that will appear on their CampInTouch account approximately 48 hours before the scheduled arrival to camp. In this form, you will attest (basically promise/guarantee/warrant) that the camper (or staff as the case may be) has not experienced any COVID-19 symptoms or been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 for the 14 days prior to camp’s departure day, that they have not been directed by Public Health to self-isolate and that they have complied AND WILL CONTINUE TO COMPLY with the pre-departure expectations as outlined in our camp communications. Families are expected to conduct daily covid screening of your family beginning today, and can use this form to do so on your own. If at any point, someone in your household does not ‘pass’ the screening, you must report this to us at [email protected]. Otherwise, the screening is a tool for your internal use.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CARPOOLING TO CAMP
Please note that carpooling is not allowed for arrival day. The only campers that are allowed to be in the same car are siblings who live in the same household. For further clarity, if a car arrives at camp with campers from different households, those campers in the car will not be permitted to enter camp. You will literally be turned away at the gate. Do not carpool. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
HEALTH HISTORY FORM (plus additional HEALTH APPENDIX for summer 2021)
The information on the Health History Form assists us in caring for your child. You are required to complete it annually, whether or not there have been changes. The online form can be filled in the "Forms and Documents" section of your CampInTouch account. Please note this medical form that you complete will be the only document relied upon to care for medical, psychological, social and safety issues that arise. Please be thorough. Do NOT rely on discussions or emails with anyone from camp. The onus is on you to disclose and share all information and expectations in the Health History Form. This form is due immediately.
Your Health History Form status is:
If this is 'Unsubmitted', please fill it out and submit asap.
Please note, if you have already filled out your form and there have been changes, you must keep your health form as up to date as possible. You can log in your CampInTouch account and click on the Health History form and update anything you need to. If you make any changes, please just notify us at [email protected], otherwise the info referenced at camp may be outdated as most submitted forms have already been printed, reviewed and filed.
NEW Health Appendix for Summer 2021: A new form has been added to your CampInTouch account as of today. The purpose of this Health Appendix is to specifically identify any pre-existing conditions where signs and symptoms of that known condition may mimic one or more COVID-19 signs (things you as an observer can see, hear or feel) or symptoms (things the patient experiences themselves). Pre-existing conditions can include, but are not limited to, seasonal allergies, asthma, being prone to fever (and the reason), dry cough, runny nose, tiredness, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, and headaches. Although you will still indicate all of these factors and considerations on the Health History Form (and other forms where applicable eg. Serious Medical Conditions form or Anaphylaxis/Serious Allergy forms), this Health Appendix will serve as a helpful quick reference document for our medical staff to best assess and help your child as we navigate the considerations and protocols specifically around Covid-19 signs and symptoms.
Please go right now to fill this out by clicking here and logging into your CampInTouch account.
RECAP OF THE FINAL 72 HOURS LEADING TO CAMP
See below for a quick and easy reference guide that gives you the overall plan of the final 72 hours leading into camp! Please remember that this is just an overview. All the important forms to print in advance, testing details and instructions and other crucial info can be found in your Road To Camp email sent on June 14th, or can also be found here.
Please feel free to save the image below on your phone, or print and put up on your fridge, or wherever you think it would help out!
NOTE: If you contacted the camp about alternate arrangements due to Shabbat or other unavoidable conflicts, the protocol for pharmacy based alternate testing has recently changed. You will receive an email with the revised testing schedule for your specific circumstances by end of day Monday and you need to reschedule your appointments accordingly. If this applies to you (eg. you are Shomer Shabbos or not in Toronto, etc.), and do not receive our email with the revised timelines for pharmacy testing, please make sure to email [email protected] on Tuesday morning for further instructions. Again, any risks or complications associated with alternate testing are at your own risk, so we strongly encourage and are requesting that you follow the testing schedule above unless it is truly impossible. Please note: driving back from the cottage is inconvenient, but that is different than impossible (eg. Shabbat observance). Let’s all do what we can to get our children safely and efficiently up to camp for a fantastic summer together.
If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
Stay tuned for the next Road to Camp communications where we give you some sneak peeks into the start of our Head Staff precamp and other helpful information as you continue to prepare for an amazing summer together at camp!

The Camp Northland Team
STAFF:
HEAD STAFF: IMMEDIATELY. (any delay beyond Tuesday June 8th could impact camp)
ALL OTHER STAFF: Thursday, June 10th
You can get this test done at any pharmacy that does testing (the list of these pharmacies is attached for you). It is free for anyone who identifies as a student or a teacher.
HEAD STAFF: Thursday, June 10th
ALL OTHER STAFF: Sunday, June 13th
There is a great proverb in the Talmud that speaks to the communal responsibility we all have to each other this summer. ”Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh la’zeh” or "All of Israel are responsible for each other".
We must work together and rely on each other, to help Camp Northland operate safely this summer.
Next steps in the testing plan (in particular the final few days before camp) will likely continue to evolve. We want to make sure we consider the absolute best available options and timing of these tests to keep Covid-19 out of camp.
Thanks and stay tuned for the next ‘Road to Camp’ email this Friday, where we will cover some fun things to know about Shabbat at camp.

June 13th - Packing list, Testing/vaccine letter, Mental Health support
Covered in this email:
There will be an additional Road to Camp very soon with an updated and thorough description of the pre-summer testing protocols.
PACKING LIST
If you have not yet seen the packing list, please make sure to check it out here. Note that there are new items for 2021 including masks, sanitizer, and each camper and staff bringing their own life jacket. The life jacket has been added because public health wants us to minimize the sharing of items when possible, and life jackets historically were shared more than any other item in camp. This is a good investment as we will continue requiring this in future years too.
Campers and staff bring sleeping bags to these adventures and leave their day to day bedding in their cabins.
Fanny pack- Because of some of our COVID protocols, every camper and staff should have a fanny pack on them to carry the essentials, including hand sanitizer and masks.
Masks- We will providing all masks and other PPE to staff. It never hurts to have backups on hand, but otherwise staff do not need to bring masks. We were very fortunate to have a very generous PPE donation and the hope is that this unbelievably generous donation will supply each child and staff with all of our mask needs all summer. The donation actually extends way beyond masks, and also includes face shields, goggles, gloves and other important NPIs (non-pharmaceutical interventions) that will help keep our camp community safe this summer.
Toolbox- This is a great item to store things like stationary and envelopes, screen-less MP3 player, books or magazines, and other personal items that a camper or staff wants to keep safe.
The vaccination letter is specifically for staff under 18 and our CITs.

The vaccination letter is specifically for staff under 18 and our CITs.

A Covid-19 Saliva test will be administered in your car on all staff. These will take place in the parking lot of camp office (1118 Centre St, Thornhill, ON).
Covid-19 Saliva testing are arranged in alphabetical order by staff last name as follows:
10:00am-10:30am. Last names starting with A-L
10:30am-11:00am Last names starting with M-R
11:00am-11:30am Last names starting with S-Z
Important tips: Go to the washroom before you leave your house! When you arrive, do not leave your car for any reason, and please bring your patience (we have never done this before and hope to never do it again).
COVID-19 SALIVA TEST
When the test kit is brought to your car, the fun begins! It can sometimes take 5-15 minutes to generate the amount of saliva (i.e. spit) that is required – and that is A-O.K. Once the receptacle has enough spit, you will need to remember to write your name, date of birth and health card number on the label so BRING A PEN!
A:
A: YES - The "Laboratory Requisition Form" ('3 day before test_Requisition_Camp Northland')
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 23
SECOND OF THE TWO MANDATORY TESTS BEFORE CAMP
We will be conducting this mandatory Lab PCR Covid-19 test ( lower nasal swab) for all STAFF the day before you come to camp.
This second mandatory Covid test will also be a drive-through test where everyone stays in the car. It will not take long but we need you there early because until you get your negative result, you CANNOT COME INTO CAMP, and this could take 24 hours to get results.
This testing will take place from 7:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23rd at In Common Labs located at 57 Gervais Dr, North York, ON M3C 1Z2 on the following schedule:
9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Last names beginning with A-M
10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Last names beginning with N-Z
A: YES - Please print and complete Section 2 (and other pertinent information) on the attached staff requisition ('Day before test_IC Labs_Camp Northland (Staff Requisition)') and bring with you to the drive-thru testing. The lab will take the requisition and gently swab your nose.
THURSDAY, JUNE 24
BAGGAGE DROP OFF AND DRIVE TO CAMP
Q: Where do I drop off baggage and when does that happen?
A: Baggage drop off for all staff this year is on July 24th from 9:15am-11:30am (with assigned time slots) at Herbert Carnegie Centennial Arena (580 Finch Avenue West).
The rest of staff will be doing baggage drop AND getting their first test but for Head Staff, it will just be baggage drop.
Because of that, if you need to drop off baggage for the truck, you must bring it between 8:30-9:00am.
There is no need to leave your car. Someone will take he luggage from your car.
We will share an illustration of the flow from entry to baggage to testing to exit as we get closer.
DRIVE and ARRIVAL TO CAMP
With an earlier baggage drop, we will pivot and the first meal served at camp will be lunch.
A reminder that the camp address is 4250 Haliburton Lake Rd. Haliburton, ON K0M 1S0.
Critical points to understand and follow on this day:
A: Make sure that you have a printout of both mandatory negative test results to hand in as your ‘passport/ to enter our site. If a printout is impossible, we will accept a digital copy by email in advance to [email protected] (subject of your email should be: [[insert Child’s name] - Proof of negative Covid test - [insert date of test].
Q: When do we give any medication and related medication instructions to the camp?
A: Medication drop-off will take place up at camp as staff are dropped off and cleared for entry. When you hand over your medication, please make sure that the medications are in a sealed Ziploc bag clearly labeled with the camper’s name, and with an ice pack inside if refrigeration is required. You should also provide instructions related to the medication in a SEPARATE smaller Ziploc, that goes inside the other ziploc, also clearly labeled with your name.
Other Questions, Answers and Updates:
What’s at stake here is your ability to come to camp. To be clear, if you test positive while at camp, you and YOUR ENTIRE CABIN COHORT WILL NEED TO LEAVE CAMP.
We are doing our best to navigate a very challenging and sensitive situation, with your safety at the forefront. . Some things change on a daily basis and we remain committed to sharing the latest information with you as clearly as we can. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Now let’s execute this plan and get up to camp to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, to roast marshmallows on a fire, and to spend time with friends again. You need this. The campers need this. The time has nearly come.

A reminder that the camp address is 4250 Haliburton Lake Rd. Haliburton, ON K0M 1S0.
Critical points to understand and follow on this day:
- No-one except the staff can leave the car at the drop-off point so big bear hugs and goodbyes need to take place before you get into the car to leave towards camp!
- There will be a porta-potty made available towards the exit, for use after a parent (or other) have dropped off you off for use in urgent cases.

We will be conducting this mandatory Lab PCR Covid-19 test (lower nasal swab) for all staff the day before you drive to camp.
Please note- We normally do not schedule camp events on Shabbat. If this conflicts with your observance of Shabbat please contact us at [email protected] and we will provide you with an alternate plan for your second mandatory test.

What’s at stake here is your ability to come to camp. To be clear, if you test positive while at camp, you and YOUR ENTIRE CABIN COHORT WILL NEED TO LEAVE CAMP.
We are doing our best to navigate a very challenging and sensitive situation, with your safety at the forefront. . Some things change on a daily basis and we remain committed to sharing the latest information with you as clearly as we can. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Now let’s execute this plan and get these kids up to camp to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors, to roast marshmallows on a fire, and to spend time with friends again. You need this. The campers need this. The time has nearly come.

Hi Staff,
Our ‘road to camp’ is getting shorter and we are getting more and more excited. We know you are too!
Below you will find information on baggage drop-off, testing and arrival information for your drive up to Moose Lake! PLEASE NOTE THERE IS UPDATED TESTING INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS BELOW THAT ALL STAFF MUST CAREFULLY READ AND FOLLOW! This email will serve as a resource available to you for several key dates between now and your drive up to camp.
Key Date Summary:
June 10 (General staff)- Strongly recommended asymptomatic lab PCR test (lower nasal swab). Book this asap! Note: this is not a rapid test - make sure to book the asymptomatic lab PCR covid test. If you test positive - you must self-isolate. Click here to understand how to self-isolate properly. If you have not done this yet, you may be too late for it to he helpful.
GENERAL STAFF:
Sunday, June 13- The 14 day quarantine period began
Thursday, June 24: Baggage Drop AND mandatory test #1 (details below)
Saturday, June 26: Mandatory test #2 (details below)
Sunday, June 27: Arrival to camp
THURSDAY JUNE 24TH -
BAGGAGE DROP OFF AND FIRST OF THE TWO MANDATORY TESTS BEFORE CAMP
Q: Where do I drop off baggage and when does that happen?
A: Baggage drop off for staff this year is on June 24th from 9:15am-11:30am at Herbert Carnegie Centennial Arena (580 Finch Avenue West). A Covid-19 Saliva test will be administered in your car on all staff.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- All camper bags must be dropped off at the baggage drop on June 24th even though you are driving up to camp. The necessity of this process is to ensure the drop-off at camp goes smoothly, with each staff taking only a few minutes to just hop out of their car with a day bag as they head into camp (no luggage at that time).
- As mentioned above, baggage drop this year is also when a Covid-19 Saliva test for all staff will be administered. Therefore, each staff must come to the baggage drop-off.
9:15am-10:00am A-I
10:00am-10:45am J-R
10:45am-11:30 S-Z
Pro tips: Go to the washroom before you leave your house! When you arrive, expect a line-up, do not leave your car for any reason (someone will take the luggage out from your trunk), and please bring your patience (we have never done this before and hope to never do it again). We will share an illustration of the flow from entry to baggage to testing to exit as we get closer.
COVID-19 SALIVA TEST
When the test kit is brought to your car, the fun begins! It can sometimes take 5-15 minutes to generate the amount of saliva (i.e. spit) that is required – and that is A-O.K. Once the receptacle has enough spit, you will need to remember to write your name, date of birth and health card number on the label so BRING A PEN!
A:
- No eating, drinking, smoking, vaping, brushing teeth etc. 30 minutes before the saliva test
- We recommend having a glass of water 1 hour before the test
- Please watch the following video for more guidance on how the saliva collection will happen onsite:
A: YES - The "Laboratory Requisition Form" ('3 day before test_Requisition_Camp Northland')
- Attached is the PDF- fillable Laboratory Requisition for each person getting tested
- each person being tested must fill in all ***red sections; AND
- indicate if they are staff/ camper
SATURDAY JUNE 26 –
SECOND OF THE TWO MANDATORY TESTS BEFORE CAMP
We will be conducting this mandatory Lab PCR Covid-19 test (lower nasal swab) for all staff the day before you drive to camp.
Please note- We normally do not schedule camp events on Shabbat. On the advice of the medical professionals, we have determined that this is a matter of our camp population's safety and having the test done in this way is the best option to support our efforts to keep our camp Covid free and in turn our population healthy.
This testing will take place from 7:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 26th at In Common Labs located at 57 Gervais Dr, North York, ON M3C 1Z2 on the following schedule (first letter of last name):
8:30am-9:30am A-I
9:30am-10:30am J-R
10:30am-11:30 S-Z
DON’T BE LATE! If you are late, we cannot guarantee your negative result will arrive in time for you to come to camp.
Q: How do we prepare for the test in advance?
A: There is nothing to prepare - just be on time!
Q: Is there any paperwork that needs to be completed and brought to the test?
A: YES - Please print and complete Section 2 (and other pertinent information) on the attached staff requisition ('Day before test_IC Labs_Camp Northland (Staff Requisition)') and bring with you to the drive-thru testing. The lab will take the requisition and gently swab your nose.
SUNDAY JUNE 27
FIRST DAY OF ALL STAFF PRE-CAMP!
All staff are to be driven to camp on Sunday July 27th. Please make sure to follow the schedule – i.e. please don’t arrive early and don’t arrive late! Please pack a lunch and bring kosher and nut free snacks as the first full meal to be served at camp will be dinner. A reminder that the camp address is 4250 Haliburton Lake Rd. Haliburton, ON K0M 1S0.
Drop off Times (first letter of last name):
- 2:00pm-3:00pm A-I
- 3:00pm-4:00pm J-R
- 4:00pm-5:00pm S-Z
- No-one except the staff can leave the car at the drop-off point so big bear hugs and goodbyes need to take place before you get into the car to leave towards camp!
- You will not be allowed in early, nor will you be allowed to wait in or around the camp.
- There will be a porta-potty made available towards the exit, for use after someone has dropped off the staff for use in urgent cases.
You should also provide instructions related to the medication in a SEPARATE smaller Ziploc, that goes inside the other ziploc, also clearly labeled with the camper’s name.
