Help children from Kibbutz Kfar Szold
Imagine being a child living in fear, constantly surrounded by the sounds of war and destruction. This is the reality for the children of Kibbutz Kfar Szold in northern Israel, as bombs continue to fall and the threat of violence looms overhead.
Camp Northland has agreed to bring 13 children and 2 chaperones at the Camp's operational expense from Kibbutz Kfar Szold in Northern Israel to camp this summer. Thankfully with support from the organization, Tafsik, their travel costs have been covered. However, the cost to Camp Northland to make these spots available is approximately $70,000. These fees are outside the scope of our 2024 budget and nonetheless we are committed to support these children and their chaperones one way or the other. We are calling on Toronto's Jewish Community to help get these children from Northern Israel who are living under daily rocket fire to camp for a summer of normalcy, community and belonging.
We need your help to make this dream a reality. All donations will go directly to cover camper fees for these 13 children.
They deserve a chance to experience joy and laughter, away from the sounds of missiles flying overhead. Help us give them the respite they so desperately need. Join us in bringing a glimmer of hope to their otherwise frightening existence. Your support can make a world of difference in the lives of these young, innocent souls.
When our community in Israel calls for help, Camp Northland says "Hineni" (we are here).

Beit Halochem- Kids of Courage
Camp Northland has a longstanding partnership with a special organization called Beit Halochem and in particular their 'Kids of Courage' program. Beit Halochem is a place where disabled Israeli veterans can regain their dignity and quality of life in Israel. After they leave the hospital, Beit Halochem Canada works with them to rebuild their lives. The 'Kids of Courage' program provides the children of disabled Israeli veterans, some of them injured themselves, the opportunity to experience summer camp at Camp Northland, amongst other initiatives under the organization's leadership. Participation in our program provides these innocent children the opportunity for a pause from the daily challenges that accompany being a child of an injured parent. Through this program, Camp Northland has provided full financial support for, and welcomed dozens of bar/bat mitzvah-aged children over the years to join our camp family as our community's bar/bat mitzvah gift to them.
In these unprecedented times, our Beit Halochem families and our Kids of Courage will need our support more than ever especially as we look forward to the anticipated needs over the coming year(s) and into the upcoming summer. As the only organization legally responsible for the well-being of Israel's wounded veterans, the role of Beit Halochem is more critical than ever. Right now, their resources are being stretched and additional assistance will be needed. In the coming weeks and months, sadly we know that new members will be introduced to the Beit Halochem rehabilitation centers, and more children than ever will be looking for our support this summer. This need is in addition to our legacy of families that may need support in different ways now, today, and in the coming weeks and months.
To support Israel's disabled veterans, Beit Halochem has:
Some more details about the program:
For three weeks each summer, Beit Halochem Canada, Aid to Disabled Veterans of Israel welcomes Kids of Courage, a group of Bar and Bat Mitzvah-aged children of severely injured Israeli veterans.
For several years, Northland has hosted these Israeli children where they share cabins and camp activities with our Canadian children.
The program provides a break from the day-to-day challenges of being the child of an injured parent. This year, more than ever, we are thrilled to give this group of children a brief respite from the challenges they deal with in Israel. Back home, parents are happy knowing their sons and daughters are simply being kids and having adventure after adventure. At camp, friendships develop as the Israelis and Canadians discover more similarities in their lives than differences.
Beit Halochem Canada is committed to rehabilitating, rebuilding, and enhancing the lives of Israeli men and women disabled in the line of duty or through acts of terror. Since October 7, the number of injured Israeli veterans has reached an unprecedented 59,000, a number continuing to climb with each day of this ongoing war.
In Israel, Beit Halochem is the only organization legally responsible for the well-being of the country’s wounded veterans. Beit Halochem Centres across Israel provide specialized sports, recreational, and rehabilitative programs for members and their families because injury not only affects the veteran.
