NBB may retain any and all monies paid in the event a camper’s registration is cancelled due to missing or insufficient forms, information or payment.A confirmation of receipt of application does not constitute Registration i.e. acceptance to camp. A separate email confirming acceptance/registration will be sent to the camper’s account holder once that decision has been finalized.

In the event that the Camp cannot operate during the expected season, or any part of the season, due to medical or related impediments, legislative restriction or other circumstances beyond the Camp’s reasonable control, the Camp will provide notice of cancellation of registration and/or proposed alternative session opportunities to you at your ordinary email address as soon as is practicable.

Infectious Disease Policy
Please ensure to review our policies related to infectious disease by clicking here:I have carefully read, understand and agree to the terms that include the Infectious Disease Policy through the link provided as evidenced by my signature below.
Allergies and diet requirementsCamp Northland cannot create or warrant an allergy free environment. We make all reasonable efforts to accommodate all known allergies but cannot guarantee that there will not be exposure to allergens or cross contamination. eg. Our kitchen uses gluten products like flour and therefore cannot actually be gluten free (it is in the air and on surfaces etc). Therefore, at a practical level, in this example, cross contamination is a guarantee. We are allergy aware and not allergy free. Nonetheless, we will do what we can to reasonably accommodate camper needs and special diets.
IMPORTANT RE: NUTS AND ANAPHYLAXIS/ALLERGIES:
CAMP NORTHLAND IS A ‘NUT-AWARE’ CAMP AND NOT ‘NUT FREE’
Camp Northland has always attempted to order foods that are “peanut aware”. However, we cannot attempt to eliminate peanuts or tree nuts (“nuts”) entirely from camp i.e. the camp cannot be ‘nut free’. After research and consultation–speaking with campers, families, staff, caterers, other camp directors and our Camp Association–we believe that our camp community benefits from being able to include campers with nut allergies in an anxiety-reduced environment rather than attempting to eliminate peanuts or tree nuts entirely from camp.
In an effort to heighten this awareness:
If you as a parent or guardian are sending food with your child on any camp trip, function, bus ride, event, or otherwise it must be kosher and we expect it to be ‘nut free’. Products that are labeled as “safe to share” or ‘Peanut and Tree Nut free’ should be preferred over those that use language like “may contain traces of nuts.” We recognize that finding foods that are completely “nut free”, especially ‘nut free’ and kosher, can be difficult; however your added sensitivity when doing camp shopping is greatly appreciated.
To be clear, Camp Northland is NOT nut-free or peanut-free.
Parent/Guardian/Camper Conduct
Any conduct by camper's parents or guardians to any member of the camp's population including year-round full time staff that is deemed by the camp to be inappropriately aggressive, threatening. or violent will be cause for cancellation, dismissal, refusal to register, or other actions deemed appropriate by the camp.
Please click on our 'Camp Policies' page to view the Camper and Parent/Guardian “Code of Conduct”.My signature below is indicating I have read and agree to abide by this policy.
-For the safety, health and welfare of everyone at camp, campers and their families must abide by all camp rules/policies as set forth by Camp Director or his designate. NBB reserves the right to refuse, cancel or dismiss any camper whose conduct, physical or psychological condition, whose influence upon others has been or is considered unsatisfactory by the Camp Directors. If a camper is dismissed from camp, it will be at the family’s expense and with no refund of fees. All campers and families are bound by the Code of Conduct. The parent/guardian has read and understood our policies, rules, regulation and Code of Conduct on our website and they have discussed these policies with the attending child/children and everyone agrees to each of those terms and expectations.
- NBB reserves the right to search all luggage, mail/packages and personal belongings. If weapons, ammunition, alcohol, illegal drugs, pornography, tobacco products (including vaporizers including “vape” accessories, e-cigarettes), fireworks, cell phones, DVD players, laptops, televisions, or any other items considered inappropriate or unsuitable for the camp community are found, at the Director’s sole discretion, they will be confiscated and disposed of, turned over to the legal authorities or returned home at the family’s expense and the camper may be sent home at the Camp Director’s discretion at the family’s expense. Packages are not permitted and will be returned to sender, donated to a food bank or disposed of at the camp's discretion. For authorized exceptions made in advance, all packages will be opened and inspected prior to delivery.
-Disruptive behavior is handled by staff on an ongoing basis and communication home may or may not take place prior to a decision to remove a camper from camp. This remains at the camp's discretion.
Although there is ongoing and regular cabin supervision, there are times where campers may be unattended for reasonable periods of time. There are also transition times in camp where campers move from place to place where there is general supervision in different parts of camp but unsupervised areas or supervision by staff that may not know the campers arriving to certain locations.
As a parent I understand that campers sometimes need or request support from staff to assist with letter writing. Staff are expected to mentor and coach campers in these circumstances to provide an accurate representation of the camper experience.
- As a parent and/or guardian, I am committed and agree to abide by camp policies as published from time to time, including policies related to sending food to camp, the use of cell phone or date devices and the camp's prohibited items list which may include things like weapons, data connecting devices, drugs, alcohol, kettles, etc.
As a parent and/or guardian, I understand that enabling a child to break a camp rule or expectation undermines the educational value of the camp and compromises the camp's ability to safely care for your child. Therefore if it is determined that you have enabled your child to do so, the camper will be sent home at your expense with no eligibility for a refund and/or return.
- By applying to register, the camper(s) and family agree to abide by the Camper Code of Conduct. If you have any questions about our Code of Conduct, please contact the Camp Director at (905) 881-0018 or by email at [email protected].
Cell Phone Policy:
Campers (including CITs) cannot be in possession of a cell phone or any other device with access to data, cell service, wifi, or internet. Any exceptions are only by communicated written policy and remain at the Camp Director’s discretion. Parents or guardians that enable contravention of this policy are compromising the values of our camp and we do not welcome this conduct. By applying to camp you acknowledge and accept this policy. Furthermore, notwithstanding that all phones and data devices are communication tools, personal property, and often are used for safety and tracking purposes, by applying to Camp Northland you accept the following consequences if this policy is violated:
1. Confiscation of the device at camp.
2. Continued confiscation of the device after camp until later in the fall when the camp director’s schedule a meeting with the camper and parents/guardians to discuss the breach of policy, and related enabling if applicable, and next steps going forward.
3. It remains completely in the camp’s discretion if the device will be returned. Therefore, by applying to camp and violating this policy at camp, you relinquish any rights to the device and the camp has full control of the device, accessories, data cards or chips, and any other related components accordingly.
We expect to update this policy prior to Summer 2024, and communication will be sent out at that time.
Extending sessions:
While the camp seeks to allow extensions where practical to do so, it is at times not an available option. There is no right to a session extension. Each unique camper’s extension request remains at the camp’s discretion. Various factors will be considered including but not limited to camper behaviour, group dynamics, capacity, staffing, and more. If the camp can facilitate an extension request, all related fees will apply. Campers registered for the Northland Experience programs are less likely to have extension opportunities than other sessions.
Cabin Requests:
Camp Northland allows campers to make up to three cabin-mate requests. The purpose of these requests is to give the camp a sense of the desired group dynamics. The camp goes through extraordinary analysis of the multiple and often competing requests to place campers in the cabin with the best chance of success and opportunity to thrive at camp. Typically this process results in each camper getting one or
more of their cabin-mate requests, but that is not guaranteed. It is also not guaranteed that large established peer groups will all remain together year over year. The cabin placements analysis happens every spring and we never simply move a cabin group forward year over year (unless the fresh requests and dynamic assessment supports this by coincidence). Our experience has shown that this almost always works out better for the campers in any event, as they make new friends, expand their lens, and become more deeply entrenched in a wider social environment at camp, creating a healthier social dynamic overall.
Notwithstanding our general policy, first time campers will be guaranteed one of two things:
1. At least one of their cabin-mate requests so long as those requests are all from the same session and program (eg. the 2 week Northland experience)
2. Advance notice if their request of at least one cabin-mate could
not be achieved. This notice will only be provided if the requests were for people from the same session and program. Eg. If a one week camper request people in the longer session, those requests will be disregarded and not addressed in our process.
There are no guarantees of placement and campers will not find out their cabins until arrival to camp.
We do not accept ‘disrequests’ ie: my child should not be placed in a cabin with camper X. If the dynamic is particularly bad with another child, please contact the camp director to discuss the situation and see whether or not camp can assist in facilitating a healthy social dynamic.
Camper Experience:
- Importance of Medical/Mental Health Disclosure: NBB is a group experience and campers must be able to participate cooperatively in cabin life, group programs and community living. Campers must meet the health and social maturity standards deemed appropriate by Camp Director. Disclosure of all medical and psychological treatments (past and present) that may affect the camp experience is required before enrollment using the designated form(s) on CampInTouch. Failure to provide full disclosure is grounds for cancellation/dismissal without refund of fees.
- The absence of any particular activity or program, inability to use or operate a particular facility or program area, or failure of any instruction or activity to take place will not under any circumstances constitute a reason for refund. - All campers are required to participate in a Swim Test. How the camper did on that swim test will determine the eligibility and/or limits in camper's ability to participate in camp's water based activities. A swim level obtained in the city does not necessarily indicate where the camper will be placed at camp as swimming in a lake environment can alter a swimmer’s comfort and confidence in the water.
- Camper Illness: Camp reserves the right to exercise it's unilateral discretion to send a sick camper home to recover. Typically, this would involve cases where a child has fever for 24 hours or longer or is struggling to recover from an otherwise routine illness. In these situations, once recovered and approved by our Medical Director/procedures, the camper may be allowed to return to camp. There are no refunds for days missed in these circumstances. Accordingly, it is critical that parents are either available for pickup throughout the summer as needed, or will make authorized alternate arrangements.
- Health Centre: Notwithstanding any prior communications or marketing materials, our health centre is staffed by doctor(s) and/or nurses as well as at times nursing students and/or first aiders. Routine treatments are not recorded or logged but rather treated in real-time as first aid triage, except as may be required by the regulatory authorities. Communication home and emergency treatment/decisions remain at the discretion of the medical professionals. The camp does have a policy directing parent communication be made for invasive procedures, head injuries, prescriptions, and similar more serious medical interventions.
- Emergency contacts are non-parent/guardians. They should be a 3rd party that will be available in the event that a parent or guardian cannot be reached
- In the event of an emergency, NBB will make every reasonable effort to contact the parent/guardian. If medical attention is required, the signature below gives permission to the health care provider selected by the Camp Director, or his agent, to administer any necessary medical, surgical or dental treatment including, but not limited to, x-rays, routine tests, medications, anesthesia and hospitalization. NBB cannot assume responsibility for the adequacy or quality of the services rendered by the health care provider and any and all claims and rights which may result, either directly or indirectly, including those involving medical and/or legal costs, shall be governed by applicable law and limited by NBB insurance coverage so that NBB, its Directors, employees and agents will not have any other liability. If applicable, the guardian(s) agree to execute any liability waivers regarding pre-existing medical conditions.Any related fees, even if paid initially by the camp will be billed back to the camper account as additional charges.
NOTE: If transportation is required beyond Haliburton Hospital, the parent will be contacted to pick up the child to transport and arrange for the care required.
- Activity Participation Agreement: I give approval to my child’s participation in any and all activities (on and off camp premises including trips) of Camp. Such participation is voluntary and I have familiarized myself with the camp’s program and activities in which my child will participate. However, I recognize and accept that new programs may be added at anytime at the Camp’s discretion. For example, we have added programs such as parasailing, go-karting, overnight canoe trips to Provincial Parks, fly-boarding, and others on a last minute basis in the past, and I recognize that certain hazards and dangers are inherent in Camp’s programs, whether in or outside of Camp grounds, including, but not limited to:go-carting, inflatables and carnival type activities, wilderness out-trips, bowling, movies, swimming, water sports, boating, ropes course, rock climbing, zip line, biking on trails and roads, hiking, overnights, canoe trips, gymnastics, archery, land sports, athletic competition, including bodily contact, intercamp games, use of equipment, other use of the camps fields and facilities and travel in camp owned and leased vehicles and trips off of camp property. I acknowledge that, although Camp has taken safety measures to minimize the risk of injury to participants, the Camp cannot ensure or guarantee that the participants, equipment, premises and or activities will be free of hazards, accidents and/or injuries. I recognize these inherent risks and expressly assume the risks by enrolling my child. I have instructed my child in the importance of knowing and abiding by the camp’s rules, regulations and procedures for safety, and the importance in participating in activities only when supervised, and my child and I both agree to do so.
-Privacy Policy: Camp Northland may use a centralized process in collaboration with UJA Federation for various initiatives including but not limited to scholarship funding, grants, and joint projects and/or initiatives. Similarly, Camp Northland collaborates with other funders or 'partners' on various initiatives in place to support and benefit the camp. By agreeing to this Privacy Policy you are giving us permission to share your information notwithstanding anything else contained in our privacy policy, and to accept the privacy policy of the relevant organization(s) or affiliate(s) we are collaborating with at the time. By attending camp or any camp event in any capacity, you consent to being photographed, videotaped and to the publication or use of your image by the camp in the camp's sole and unfettered discretion. Your participation implicitly waives any control or limitation to the use of your image or the image of minors under your care to the camp and/or affiliated organizations.
-Disputes: It is agreed that the venue and place of trial of any dispute that may arise out of this Agreement or otherwise, to which camp, its directors, staff or agents, is a party, in the court of Ontario and that this agreement will be construed in accordance with the laws of Ontario, without regard to provisions relating to conflict of laws. If any provision of this agreement is deemed to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable, the remainder of the agreement shall be unaffected, but without giving effect to the invalid, illegal or unenforceable provision. In the event that the Camp is successful in any litigation, it is agreed that the losing party will reimburse the Camp for all attorney fees and costs of litigation.
- All issues shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario & I/We agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of its courts.
- Policies are regularly updated and supplemented. Please be sure to stay informed here.
My signature represents and warrants that I not only agree to these stated terms and conditions, but also the referenced and linked policies identified throughout these terms and conditions.

In an effort to heighten this awareness:
- Our dining hall and kitchen is a ‘nut-aware’ space. Please note that the camp is not and cannot be ‘nut free’. Foods served by our dining hall will not contain any nut products in the ingredients, although some items do use phrases like “may contain nuts, peanuts or tree nuts ” or “cooked in a facility that also manufactures nuts, peanuts or tree nuts”, or some variation of the above phrases.
- We ensure that items most commonly exposed to “cross contamination” in the manufacturing process (i.e. chocolate bars, ice cream, granola bars, etc.) are labeled “nut free” but please note that different manufacturers may treat language around nuts, peanuts and/or tree nuts differently. Campers with allergies should always check ingredients.
- No outside foods are permitted in the dining hall.
