Medication Process 2022

NEW IN 2022!
For campers and staff who take daily/regular medication:
In an effort to improve efficiency of medication administration and ensure your camper gets medication at appropriate times, we are moving to an enhanced protocol that involves smart
blister packaging through a pharmacy called Mednow Pharmacy. Mednow will make the entire process a breeze for you! Once you complete our online consent form to transfer medication preparation to Mednow for the Summer 2022 camp season, they will prepare, package and send the medications directly to camp for you! There is no additional cost or time for you. Each medication will be labelled, and packaged as per dosage instructions. Please note ALL medications for the camp season must be arranged under this plan.

This is a new process for us and with every new process there's comes learning and understandings to be made. We very much appreciate that not every situation may fit or there may be some unique circumstances. We of course welcome your questions, and we always enjoy our conversations as we learn how to best meet everyone's needs. Please remember the purpose for doing this is to ensure the safest possible medication dispensing system for your children. Camp is a large of over 700 people and safe and efficient medication management is a top priority.

Your first step is completing the consent form:

Staff click HERE.
After that, they will take care of communicating with both you and your current pharmacies/physicians.

More information about Mednow can be found here: https://mednow.ca/. If you have any questions for them, you can all 1.855.MEDNOW.1 ( 1.855.633.6691)

Important re: Over the Counter medications: Please do not send any anticipatory over the counter meds. If you do, please note that it will go into our general pool of medications. Exception: if your child uses an over the counter medication on a daily or regular/ongoing basis, then that should be provided as per above. Our camp's Health Centre is well equipped with any over the counter medication for our campers and staff and will be dispensed as per medical direction.
FAQ's:
Why is camp switching to this system?

A: The rationale is to keep the campers and staff as safe as possible by having an organized and consistent system of medication storage, packaging and dispensing.

Are all type of medications required to go through Mednow?
A: The only thing being required is that daily medications go through our new system.
You can fill your own scripts for emergency puffers and epipens anywhere you like, or we can help facilitate that.

What about Over-the-Counter that are taken daily?

A: If you are sending over the counter meds for daily use like an antihistamine, those are considered daily meds and we would like you to use the same system please or you risk missed doses or inconsistent delivery of the medication.

What about meds that are only taken "as needed"?
A:  If you have 'only take as needed' medications and it is not likely that they will be needed daily, you can send those up separately with clear supporting instructions on the camper/staff medical form.

What will happen after camp is over?
A: We are only asking for you to move the summer script. There is nothing preventing you from immediately reverting to your normal pharmacy immediately after this summer prescription is filled through our facilitated system.
Mednow will ask you on their initial phone call if you would like them to transfer back the prescriptions to your pharmacy once they have completed their process on their end.  This will ensure that there are no added steps you  need to do once your child returns home.

Is Camp Northland benefitting in any way from this new process?

A: This system does not benefit the camp in any way (financially or otherwise) except as it relates to the best interest of your child's and our staff's safety.
